This past December marked the fiftieth anniversary of one of the great technological achievements of the 20th century, the first manned circumnavigation of the moon, by Apollo 8. This breakthrough was to be followed by the first actual moon walk only a few months later. In this presentation, Dr. Raddo will chronicle some of the events leading to these achievements through the spectacular imagery found on postage stamps and on coins from various countries worldwide. Milestone events from Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Soyuz series will be presented. And of course it all began with World War 2 and Werner Von Braun's V-2 rockets. Pasquale Di Raddo is a professor of chemistry at Ferris State University. He has been teaching for close to 30 years, prior to which he did research on cancer causing compounds and on radioactive chemicals for PET studies.
